There are a wide variety of resources available on various
aspects of earthquake- and engineering-related topics. Below is
a list of some of those resources.
American Society
of Civil Engineers
Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers represents
more than 123,000 members of the civil engineering profession
worldwide, and is America's oldest national engineering society.
ASCE's vision is to position engineers as global leaders building
a better quality of life.
Applied
Technology Council (ATC)
Contains information about the council’s
mission and organization; recent news releases; newsletters; recent
reports, briefs, and training manuals; databases; seminars and
workshops; and other ATC products
Association
of Bay Area Governments (ABAG)
Maps of seismicity for the San Francisco
Bay Area, as well as information on building vulnerability.
California
Geological Survey (CGS)
CDMG has primary responsibility
for work in the geosciences in California, including hazard mapping,
earthquake scenarios, a strong-motion instrumentation program,
and policy implementation.
California
Seismic Safety Commission (CSSC)
Provides information about
the Commission, its publications, pending legislation relevant
to seismic hazards in California, and a table of significant California
earthquakes.
Consortium
Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering (CUREE)
CUREe
is a consortium of eight universities (Cal Tech, Stanford, UC
Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, and USC) to
coordinate work on earthquake research problems:
Disaster
Research Center (DRC)
The center is the first social research
center in the world devoted to the study of disasters.
Earthquake
Engineering Research Center (EERC)
Earthquake Engineering
Abstracts cover the world literature in earthquake engineering
since 1971. Contents include selected technical reports,
conference papers, monographs, and journal articles.
Earthquake
Engineering Research Institute (EERI)
A de facto U.S. national
society for earthquake engineering.
EQNET
Excellent database of earthquake information sources on the Web.
Multidisciplinary
Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER)
Contains
MCEER bibliographies; literature and research guides, and list
of FEMA and NEHRP guidelines and handbooks for earthquake resistant
construction and design.
Natural
Hazards Research and Applications Information Center (NHRAIC)
HazLit is an excellent on-line index that provides bibliographic
access only to that collection of NHRAIC at the University of
Colorado at Boulder.
Pacific
Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center
PEER is a consortium
of earthquake engineering research universities in the Western
United States. The web site has their reports and other
useful information.
Southern
California Earthquake Center (SCEC)
This is the Science and Technology
Center of the National Science Foundation. The site contains
background information on SCEC as well as links to its many member
academic institutions.
Structural
Engineers Association of California (SEAOC)
Contains research
specific to structural engineering.
University
of Washington
General
site with directory to other sites related to earthquakes.
United
States Geological Survey
Source of information related to earthquakes.
