Glide Memorial Community Housing

San Francisco, CA

The structural design of a new ten-story concrete tower with a basement is ongoing. This approximately 51,000-square-foot building features an exposed courtyard on the first floor and a terrace on the ninth floor. The structure is located on a tight urban site, which necessitates the use of an innovative foundation system consisting of a combined mat and drilled piers. The primary vertical load-resisting elements include post-tensioned two-way concrete floor slabs and concrete fill metal decks at the mechanical penthouse, supported by concrete columns and walls. The primary lateral load-resisting elements are concrete shear walls up to the roof level and steel braced frames at the mechanical penthouse above the roof.
